So I finally got Covid.
Thankfully, it turned out to be no more than a run-of-the-mill cold. I did not need Paxlovid which has apparently earned high marks. No doubt, being fully vaccinated helped. Even though I’ve been symptom free for several days I’m testing positive and have a lingering, infrequent cough. I’ve begged off a trip to visit my Dad and will beg off a work trip even though I “feel” 100%.
What an interesting question as to why its lethality has so decreased. Enough of the population is NOT vaccinated that you would expect to see a big spike in that group and you primarily see increased disease. Why not worse?
One thought is that any virus that kills its host is self-terminating, depending on how long the killing takes. A long incubation sucks because a lot of people can become infected.
It’s still one of the top 5 causes of death but that’s a FAR cry from its peak. While I don’t know the reason for the virus’s enfeeblement, I sure won’t complain!
